| Please briefly present the partner organization | Evnikos sports club is a nongovernment sports organization. Evnikos sports club is a voluntary group of people formed for the purpose of playing sports. Our activities take place in the west of Athens where are a lot of social inequalities in contrast with the area of the east of the metropolitan city of Athens (Attica). Our aim is to encourage and support children and youth to participate in Educational sports or physical Activities provoking their own Social Transformation moving from their ascribed status to a new achieved status for themselves.(E.A.S.T.) We believe that if the children and youth participate in any type of both formal or informal sports and physical activities, they can seize a unique opportunity: -To stay physically and mentally fit, to tackle weight and obesity issues, to prevent or reduce the impact of many other health-related conditions and in turn, to have not considerable social costs. -To interact and integrate with other social groups, expected realistic outcomes in social inclusion and integration especially for marginalized and underprivileged groups, such as migrants and people at risk of discrimination. -To learn to be part of a team and accept the principle of fair play, as well as establish healthy behaviors and lifestyles. -To regulate social behavior and create a feeling of belonging ,which in turn leads to a strengthening of democracy. -To bring people together, building communities and fighting attitudes of xenophobia and racism. -To create cohesion and make possible the democracy education through the collective and emotional experiences. Also we believe that voluntary sport may help develop competencies important to democratic understanding, cooperation, gender equality, leadership and organization. Our members organize or participate as volunteers in any kind of sports events or activities, such as indoor or outdoor and formal or informal sports events, grassroots sports events, recreational sports events, physical activities. In addition, we promote and develop volunteering in the sport and physical activity sector. Finally, we promote the participation of young adults in any consultations, debates or decision making processes in the field of sports. Evnikos Sports Club has been cooperating with the Municipality’s Sports Department and several others sports clubs for many years, organizing together sports activities or classes or tournaments, with the participation of young people, especially for yong people under disadvantages etc. (for example archery, mountain climbing, traditional games, Greco-Roman wrestling, pancratium, basketball, volleyball, swimming) In additional, Evnikos Sports Club has been cooperating with the Municipality’s Social Department for three years, offering free participation to some members of the municipality’s social sections or actions. Furthermore, in Evnikos Sports Club there are 19 groups of all ages with 390 basketball athletes. In the field of championship, Evnikos Sports Club has a team of women in the national category of women, a men’s team in the category of the Attica region, two teams of teenagers 16-18 years old (one girls and one boys), three team under 16 years old (one girls and two boys) and five teams under 14 years old (two girls and three boys). | |
